How can we possibly trust Merck chemical company to distribute millions of doses of a cervical cancer vaccine to young women in this country? Their media blitz for this product has already begun on T.V. and in adds. Merck remember was the company that gave us Vioxx, but how soon we forget. The Vioxx scandal is barley off the headlines!! Merck was caught in this scandal intimidating scientists who dared to speak about the dangers of Vioxx. They also were found to be misleading and burying data that clearly indicated the risks of this drug. It is estimated that Merck will make between 1.6 and 4 billion dollars annually on this new cervical cancer vaccine. While at the same time cervical cancer effects aprox, 10,000 women in the U.S. each year and kills aprox. 3700 to 4000 . This company has a proven track record of misleading and deceiving the public when it comes to the health risks of their products yet we are expected to line up millions of young women to be injected with a vaccine that is set to profit these criminals billions of dollars. How can we possibly know the side effects of this drug 10 or 20 years from now. When we take time to think about this decision and consider what percent 4000 is in a country of 300 million we can make rational decisions concerning the welfare of the young women in this country and not be caught up in the media hype that these giant chemical companies with their multi million dollar advertising budgets would have us to fall into.
